Videography brings together elements of production, directing, cinematography and sound within a more compact and flexible production model. It is often the right approach for projects with smaller crews, faster shooting schedules and less pre-production than a dedicated cinematography-led production — but that does not mean treating the image, sound or storytelling with less care.
Based in Lisbon and working across Portugal, I provide high-end commercial video production and professional videography for brands, agencies, production companies and independent clients, including international productions filming in Portugal. Depending on the project, the setup can remain deliberately light and mobile or expand to include multiple videographers, several cameras, different camera systems, dedicated microphones and audio recording, lighting, action cameras and aerial footage.
For exterior and fast-moving productions, the work is often filmed in a run-and-gun style: a flexible approach designed to react quickly to real locations, changing light, people and events while maintaining professional image and sound quality.
This makes videography particularly well suited to event coverage, corporate videos, interviews, branded content, travel films and location-based productions, where the priority is often to capture a wide range of strong, usable material efficiently within a limited schedule. Event work may involve several videographers and simultaneous camera positions; corporate work can combine interviews, workplace footage and observational B-roll; and travel productions often mix handheld or gimbal camera work with aerial footage and action cameras to build a broader sense of place.
Compared with a dedicated cinematography / DoP assignment, videography will often involve a lighter production structure and less technical pre-production, while still benefiting from careful framing, exposure, sound, camera movement and an experienced eye for the moments that matter.

For projects that need more than straightforward coverage, my background as a Cinematographer / Director of Photography (DoP) brings lighting, composition, camera movement and visual continuity into the production from the outset. Combined with experience as a Director and Producer, this is particularly useful for interviews, branded content, documentary work and productions where the footage needs to integrate smoothly into a larger edit or international production workflow.
The setup can remain compact for an efficient single-operator shoot or expand with additional camera, lighting, sound and production crew when the project requires it. The aim is not to add unnecessary production weight, but to match the crew and equipment to the creative and technical needs of each job.
For visiting production companies and agencies, I can work as a local videographer or DoP within an existing crew and help source additional camera, sound, lighting or production resources in Portugal when required. ATLAS OBSCURA × CULINARY BACKSTREETS · TRAVEL & CULINARY VIDEOGRAPHY
I filmed this travel project for Atlas Obscura in collaboration with Culinary Backstreets, accompanying the group over several days through food, culture and local experiences in Portugal. The production followed a run-and-gun approach, using a compact camera-on-gimbal setup and drone footage to stay mobile, react quickly to changing locations and capture both the planned itinerary and spontaneous moments along the way. The recorded material was delivered to the client for their own editing and post-production workflow.
RIPPLE × UNICÂMBIO · CORPORATE FILM
I worked as Director of Photography (DoP) and Videographer as part of a two-person local camera team, together with a video assistant, for this fintech collaboration between Ripple and Unicâmbio. The main interview with Adriana Jerónimo, Executive Board Member at Unicâmbio, was recorded with two cameras — a Sony FX6 and Sony FX3 — while the interviewer conducted the conversation remotely by video call. The laptop was positioned close to the camera at the appropriate eye level so that the interviewee's eyeline remained natural, as if the interviewer were physically present beside the lens.
Audio was captured with lavalier and cardioid shotgun microphones, while LED fixtures and diffusion were used to create soft, even interview lighting. One of the technical challenges was recording in NTSC in a PAL country while working around the office's existing mixture of practical lights and colour temperatures, requiring careful lighting and camera settings to minimise flicker. B-roll at Unicâmbio's headquarters was filmed with the Sony FX3 on a gimbal, including a staged meeting, staff interactions, the building entrance and office environments. The following day, additional footage was recorded at a partner currency-exchange location in downtown Lisbon and on the surrounding streets, using a Panasonic Lumix S5IIX on a gimbal with an Atomos monitor/recorder capturing ProRes 422. The recorded material was then delivered to the client, who handled the editing and post-production.
SBC SUMMIT 2025 · EVENT & INTERVIEW COVERAGE
I worked as a local cinematographer/DoP and event videographer in Lisbon as part of an international production led by UK-based Flow Films, covering the SBC Summit 2025. For the interview setup I worked independently, operating two cameras — a Sony PMW-F55 and Sony A7 IV — while also handling lighting and location audio. Interviews with CEOs and senior executives were recorded inside a busy exhibition pavilion, where surrounding stands, amplified presentations and loud music created a demanding sound environment. I used Sennheiser lavalier and hypercardioid shotgun microphones to isolate speech as effectively as possible.
The interview area was shared with a podcast production, which meant the complete camera, lighting and sound setup had to be moved and rebuilt several times during the day whenever the podcast space was needed. The equipment also had to be assembled and dismantled on each of the three event days. As part of the local production support, I also helped the visiting production team source and engage an additional videographer and a drone operator for the wider three-day event coverage. The recorded material was delivered to the client for editing and post-production.
LUCE · EVENT VIDEOGRAPHY
I was responsible for the complete production of this promotional film for LUCE (Lung Cancer Europe)'s Annual Members Meeting in Lisbon, from event and activity coverage to the recording of interviews. Working as a solo videographer, I used two Panasonic Lumix S1 cameras and a Sennheiser lavalier and cardioid shotgun microphone setup for interview sound.
I also handled the complete editing and post-production workflow, including subtitles, colour correction and colour grading, shaping the event coverage and interviews into the finished promotional film.
PRIVATE COMMISSION · TAGUS RIVER, LISBON
A private commission for a milestone double birthday celebration on a boat trip along the Tagus River in Lisbon, covered by a two-person photo and video team: myself as videographer and a dedicated photographer. I filmed with a Sony A7 III on a gimbal in a run-and-gun style, using external ProRes recording to capture candid moments, atmosphere and the natural rhythm of the event while remaining mobile around the boat.
I also completed the editing, post-production, colour correction and colour grading of the final highlight film.

Videography Day Rates & Booking
From solo shoots to multi-camera crews. Each videography project is quoted according to its actual creative and technical requirements. The final rate depends on factors such as crew size, number and type of cameras, lenses, lighting, microphones and audio equipment, action cameras, aerial requirements, travel, locations and any additional production support required.
A standard videography day is normally based on a 10-hour production window, including equipment setup and breakdown and a 1-hour meal break. A half day can be applied when the complete shoot is no longer than 4 hours 30 minutes, including equipment setup and breakdown. Extended days, unusual schedules, travel and other production-specific requirements are discussed and quoted case by case.
The crew can scale with the production. Some assignments are best handled by a single videographer working efficiently with a compact camera and audio package; others may require two or more videographers, multiple simultaneous camera angles, a dedicated sound technician, additional lighting or specialist equipment.

Can you work with an existing international production crew?
Yes. I regularly work as a local videographer or DoP alongside international producers, directors, agencies and production teams filming in Portugal. I can join an existing crew in a defined camera or cinematography role, or help coordinate local production resources when additional support is required.
Can you provide additional crew and equipment?
Yes. The setup can scale from a solo videographer to a multi-camera crew with camera assistants, dedicated sound, lighting and other production specialists. Additional cameras, lenses, lighting, microphones, grip, teleprompter, action cameras, studio resources and other equipment can also be sourced according to the project.
Do you work outside Lisbon?
Yes. I am based in Lisbon and work throughout Portugal, including Porto and the Algarve. Travel outside the local Lisbon area can be incorporated into the production plan and quoted according to distance, schedule and project requirements.
For productions outside Portugal, travel days are normally charged at the half-day rate. Flights, baggage, accommodation, local transport and other travel expenses are quoted separately and agreed as part of the production budget.
How far from Lisbon is local travel included, and when are travel expenses charged?
For shoots within approximately a 35 km radius of central Lisbon, I normally do not charge additional mileage for my own local travel. This generally represents up to roughly 70 km of total round-trip driving. Parking, tolls, ferries or other location-specific transport costs may still be charged when applicable.
For locations beyond this local travel area, travel is assessed according to the distance and production schedule and may include mileage or a travel charge, tolls, travel time and, when required, accommodation.
For multi-location shoots, travel between filming locations forms part of the booked production time. Any significant travel expenses are identified and agreed in advance as part of the quotation.
How much does a videographer cost in Lisbon?
Videography rates in Lisbon depend on the production scope, filming duration, crew size, camera and audio requirements, lighting, travel and whether editing or other post-production is required. Can you accommodate short-notice shoots or fast-turnaround projects?
Often, yes, depending on availability and the complexity of the production. A straightforward solo shoot can sometimes be arranged quickly, while projects requiring permits, rental equipment, additional crew, drone operations or substantial pre-production need more lead time. If the deadline is tight, include the filming date, location and required deliverables in the first enquiry so feasibility can be assessed immediately.
What information should I send when requesting a videography quote?
If available, include the project type and purpose, filming date and location, approximate filming hours or number of days, expected deliverables, whether interviews or professional sound are required, the number of cameras or crew envisaged, whether editing, photography or drone footage is needed, and the preferred delivery deadline. If some details are still undecided, they can be defined during the initial planning stage.
Do you provide professional audio recording and interview lighting?
Yes. Professional microphones, audio recording and lighting can be integrated into the videography setup. On compact productions I can handle camera, lighting and location sound directly; productions requiring a dedicated sound recordist, larger lighting setup or specialist crew can be scaled accordingly.
Can you deliver raw footage or film for our own editor?
Yes. I can be hired for filming only and deliver the recorded camera and audio material to an agency, production company or in-house editing team when this is agreed in the project scope. Recording format, file structure, transfer method, storage media and any specific data-handling requirements should ideally be confirmed before filming.
Can you deliver horizontal, vertical and social-media versions?
Yes. Deliverables can include horizontal, vertical or square formats and different resolutions or codecs for websites, presentations, YouTube, LinkedIn, Instagram and other platforms. Straightforward exports or reframing may be included within the agreed scope; versions requiring a separate edit, different shot selection, graphics or timing are treated as additional deliverables.
Can subtitles, captions, voice-over or multilingual versions be included?
Yes. Subtitles, captions, voice-over and multilingual versions can be included or coordinated when required. Depending on the project, this may involve translated scripts, professional voice talent, burnt-in captions or separate subtitle files such as SRT. Translation, recording and additional language versions are defined and quoted according to the required deliverables.
Do we need a filming permit for a small video shoot in Lisbon?
It depends on the location and on how the production uses the public space. Professional or commercial filming in public space managed by the Câmara Municipal de Lisboa generally requires authorisation. The main exemptions concern news-media coverage without installations or impact on circulation, private non-commercial filming, and locations that are not managed by the municipality.
A small mobile setup using handheld cameras or gimbals, without reserving space, creating significant noise, installing structures, blocking pedestrian or vehicle circulation or requiring technical parking, is normally much simpler to organise than a larger fixed production. Additional requirements may apply where the production occupies public space, reserves parking, installs equipment or structures, affects traffic or requires police, fire or other municipal support.
Portugal also has a copyright exception commonly referred to as freedom of panorama, allowing the use of works such as architecture or sculpture intended to remain permanently in public places, subject to the applicable legal conditions. Portuguese copyright law also expressly recognises incidental inclusion of protected works. These copyright provisions are separate from filming permits and permission to occupy or use a particular location.
Filming inside or within the managed grounds of a monument, museum, palace or other controlled location normally requires permission from the responsible institution. Cultural, educational, documentary or other non-commercial projects may sometimes qualify for reduced fees, exemptions or institutional support, while operational costs can still apply. Authorisations or public support may also require credits, institutional logos and delivery of copies of the finished production for archival purposes.
Permit requirements are assessed case by case during pre-production.
Can drone footage be included in a video production in Portugal?
Yes, when the location, airspace, weather and regulatory requirements make the operation possible. Aerial image capture in Portugal requires prior authorisation from the Autoridade Aeronáutica Nacional (AAN), and the drone operator must meet the applicable ANAC registration and operational requirements. Additional permissions may be required in maritime or coastal areas, protected areas, controlled airspace or other restricted locations.
AAN requests should be planned at least 10 days before the intended activity, and locations requiring coordination with other authorities can need substantially more lead time. When a production requires specific credentials, specialist capabilities or FPV operation, I can work with an appropriately qualified professional drone operator. Drone filming should therefore be assessed before it is confirmed as part of the shoot.
What if I’m not happy with the final video?
I approach client work with the same level of care and quality I would expect from a film or production of my own. Once a film is published, audiences do not judge how difficult or expensive it was to produce — they judge what they see on screen. For that reason, I can sometimes be more demanding of the finished work than the client themselves.
When I am entrusted with the creative and aesthetic direction of a project, the work is developed to fulfil the agreed brief, concept, deliverables and production objectives while applying my own professional standards to filming and post-production. Taste is naturally subjective, so if there is dissatisfaction, the first question is whether the finished work fulfils what was agreed before and during production.
A client may instead retain full creative and conceptual direction and hire me primarily as a technical filmmaker, cinematographer or videographer. In that case, I work according to the client’s explicit creative instructions and technical requirements, and creative responsibility remains with the client.
For edited productions, my proposals normally include two stages of client revisions after delivery of the first version. These allow the edit to be refined within the agreed brief and scope. Requests that substantially change the approved concept, script, production approach or previously approved direction may require additional work.
